3 apps to track your Couch to 5k run

By Get Active, in partnership with the Sport Tech Hub

If you have used the Couch to 5k app, you’ll know that it guides you through your runs telling you when to walk and when to run. However it doesnt track the route you take or record your distance. However its easy to do this by using a second running app whilst doing your run.

Running apps can help you keep track of your pace and distance and help support you in reaching your personal running goals.

With so many to choose from, the choice can be difficult, with the help of the Sports Tech Hub, we have made this decision a little easier for you by collating our favourite apps for tracking your run.

Explore the below and pick your favourite:

Strava allows you to track your activities such as walking, running and cycling by using GPS data.  It will also enable you to join online challenges, share activity photos and follow friends.

What we like about it

There is a free version of the app which will track your run on your phone or via a GPS watch. You can set it to give you an audio notification every time you reach a kilometre, great for keeping you on track. The paid version gives you access to route planning and more in depth analysis of your runs.

Nike Run Club has all the essential tool that are needed to help you achieve your goals. This app connects to your audio, uses GPS to track your running statistics such as pace, distance and elevation. As well as supporting you with your goals by offering weekly and monthly challenges

What we like about it

During your run you can see how you are doing – with things like pace, location, distance, shown on an easy to read screen.

After your run you can share with friends and personalise your posts by adding photos, stats and stickers.

Pace to Race is the world’s first virtual pacer app. The software provides you with real-time audio and tactile feedback to enable you to achieve their running goals.

What we like about it

There is a ‘ghost pacer’ feature. Choose any previous run you have done and the Ghost Pacer will replay it in real time, speeding up and slowing down exactly where you did. Great for seeing the improvements you are making!
