How to deal when you can’t finish a run

Like anything you get involved in, running requires perseverance and resilience. While it can be disheartening to not complete a run or be behind schedule, it is important to remember just getting up and out is a win in anyone’s book!

There are many ways to keep yourself motivated for example joining groups, involving family and friends and setting time aside for yourself to reflect.

The Couch to 5K community is so supportive and provides a major support network for likeminded individuals!

Here are some of the community’s top motivation and encouragement tips for when dealing with failed runs!

“Any run is one more than you did yesterday!”

“Choose music appropriate to the pace you desire and keep it manageable.”

“Don’t be mad, give yourself a couple days rest and you’ll smash it out next time!”

“If you feel like you can’t progress to the next week, just repeat the current week!”

“Keep it at a steady pace and just run longer; if at the end of the run you feel you can carry on.”

The Couch to 5k app is a 9 week programme that helps you get into running at your own pace.
